Maybe the Cutest Animal on the Planet

I used to work with a guy who said that when he died he wanted to be reincarnated as a river otter.  His rational was that he would then be able to spend his days lazily floating down a river eating fish.  I don’t know if I want to be reincarnated as an otter, but I sure love watching them play at the zoo.  They just may be the cutest animal on the planet.

Fabulous Fossa

Oh Hai!

So just what is a fossa you ask? At least I did.  They have serious cute potential that’s for sure. 

Fossa are cat like carnivores that live on the island of Madigascar.  The fossa is usually less than a meter in length, with the tail being the same size as the body. 

The fossa’s favorite food is lemur, and they can often be spotted leaping through the trees to catch dinner.  Despite beign ultra cute, fossa are fierce predators and their prey rarely escapes once spotted.   They are mostly nocturnal, but have also been known to hunt during the day.  When not jumping from tree to tree fossa walk flatfooted on the ground like bears rather than on their toes like the cats they resemble.

Baby fossa aren’t are born fierce, however.  They are toothless, blind, and dependent on their mothers for the first year of their life.  They don’t even venture out of their nests for the first four months of life.
