My New Etsy Store – Please, Please, Please Visit
Oh Hai,
It has been a long time since I have posted anything about my Artism. I have just been so caught up in all of the cuteness out there. I have just opened a new Etsy shop that I am very proud of, and I wanted to share it with the world. If you have never gone to the Etsy website, you should (Etsy.com). It is an awesome market place for handmade and vintage items as well as crafting supplies. I think it is a perfect place for my repurposed or upcycled (suggested by an Ebay customer) jewelry. Below are a few new examples of my artism that can be found on Etsy. If you like what you see, please visit my store Rockshanks Repurposed Art Jewelry.

Some New Artism
Oh Hai!
It has been a while since I posted any of my artism. I have been working really hard practicing my souldering skills lately and had a brainstorm to make charm bracelets with some of my favorite book covers as the charms. I started with, I am kind of ashamed to admit as I am 38 years old, the Twilight series. I then moved onto Harry Potter and some classics like Shakespeare and Jane Austen. I really like these bracelets because they combine two of my obsessions, reading and artism. My skills certainly are not perfect yet, but I am working on it.

Bonus Artism
Proudly Sharing My Artism For About a Month
For a while now, I have been using antique ladies watches in my jewelry. Inspired by my niece, I finally created a way to use the antique watchbands as well. I suppose it is a little bit odd to take what might be a perfectly good watch apart and use the face in one place and the band in another, but hey it’s what I do. I am pretty happy with the result.
Here is another bracelet I have finished. It is also made with pieces of antique watches. In this case it is the crystals.
Thank you for your consideration and have a great weekend.
Teaching My Love Hate Relationship
When it works, I love it. When it doesn’t, like today, I just detest teaching. It is Monday, our schedule was changed, and the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (the dreaded WASL) starts tomorrow. All in all the students were nuts, and I was frustrated. To top it off one of the kids stole the lock from the lap top cart. Arrgh! That’s when a warm bath, some artism, and TBTL really helps. Maybe tomorrow will be better. I can always hope.
Just What is Repurposeing? – If You Care
My artism involves what I lovingly call repurposing. Basically that means I take old things, usually things you wouldn’t make jewelry out of, and turn it in to new, hopefully beautiful jewelry. I started with old bottle caps and then went to electric typewriter keys and scrabble tiles. The following is a less than complete list of things I have repurposed or am working on repurposing:
- Game Pieces (Scrabble, Monopoly, Stratego, etc.)
- Old Costume Jewelry (Charms, Charm Bracelets, Pins, etc.)
- Pieces of Broken China
- Guitar Picks
- Watches
- Spoons
My latest effort involves antique watch crystals. Those are the plastic pieces that cover the inner workings. After discovering that soldering did not work and was not attractive, I stumbled on drilling them and sewing them together with thin wire. Inside I put crystals and other small stone chips. I am pretty happy with the result. I think I will put the smaller ones on charm bracelets and leave the larger ones as pendants.
Prior to working on the watch crystal puzzle, I completed a stuffed charm bracelet using antique merry-go-round charms and pink and mauve stones.
Well, enough of my showing off I suppose.
