More Amazing See Through Animals
Apparently frogs are not the only animal that nature has seen fit to make see through. The barrel eye, or spookfish, is another one of nature’s see through wonders. These fish can be found in the deep dark waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They have large protruding eyes which are encased in a transparent dome of soft flesh. Presumably the transparent dome helps improve the fish’s vision in the dark depths of the ocean by providing the eyes more light. The fish can direct their vision upwards toward the faintest light in order to spot the shape of prey. It is about 10 inches long and has an elaborate fin structure, luminescent organs, and a transparent to translucent head. The light emanating from the barrel-eye tends to confuse predators, making it difficult for them to see it as a fish. Little is known about the number of barrel-eyes still in existence.
