Bats For Halloween

October 15, 2009 Leave a comment

Oh Hai:

I find my thoughts turning to bats during this Halloween season.  Once you get past their undeserved vampiric reputation, they really are amazingly beautiful and complex creatures.  I am constantly amazed by the creatures we share our planet with.  Enjoy!

Bonus Question:  Which one of these is not like the other?

Happy Halloween!

Creepy But Cute

Oh Hai!

Sometimes animals are so ugly they are cute.  In this case these little guys are so creepy their cute.  I suppose if a swarm of bats was flying at me or I found a live one in the toilet one morning when I was trying to go to the bathroom (like a neighbor I had as a kid) I would be freaked out, but these babies just make me want to go ahhh!  Enjoy the baby creepy cuteness of the bat kingdom.

I guess I am just obsessed with a lot of things today.  In case you haven’t seen it, check out this most adorable video of a baby fruit bat yawning.  It is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen in my entire life.  A major awesome for baby fruit bats.  Rawr!

I first saw these guys on Cute Overload (another one of my obsessions) and fell in love.  I didn’t know bats even came in white.  These bats live in Central American banana groves.  They make cuts in the leaves so the leaves bend over and act as shelters where they congregate in precious little snow ball piles.  Their diet is primarily fruit.  Unfortunately, these bats are endangered.  It would be a shame to eliminate such cuteness from the world.  We need as much cuteness as we can get.
