If you like these unique items you might also like the following item from my Etsy shop Rockshanks.

Hero’s Rainbow Bridge Beaded Bracelet

I have named my latest creation after my beloved cat Hero who recently passed away from cancer. The reference to the Rainbow Bridge comes from a poem. It is a place where pets who have passed on wait for their owners to join them. It seemed the perfect name for this rainbow shaded bracelet.

** 15% of the sale of Hero’s Rainbow Bridge Bracelets will be donated to the Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society.**

You Will Be Greatly Missed Best Friend!

I Love You

Today I lost my best friend, Hero.  Fifteen years ago yesterday I adopted her from the Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society, and have been privileged to share my life with her ever since.  It might sound cliche, but I knew she was the cat for me the minute I saw her.  She came right up to me as I walked by her cage, and it was love at first sight.   I adopted her on the spot.  The first night she spent with me she slept on my chest the whole night.  I barely got a wink of sleep, but it was worth it.  She had been a stray, so she wasn’t so sure about the whole new home thing.

At that time I lived in a tiny apartment.  Hero only tried to escape once.  She was running so fast she ran smack dab into the glass apartment door and knocked herself silly.  She never tried that again.  She and her friend Beatrice tried to make another run for it a couple of summers ago when they pushed the window screen out.  She only made it as far as the back deck.  The sound of the food container was enough to bring her running back.

Hero was a unique cat.  She really was a one person girl.  She loved me but was wary of just about everyone else, especially men.  She did not enjoy being picked up and was never a lap cat, but she was warm and loving, and would cuddle up against me whenever she thought I was asleep.  After I adopted her I adopted three other cats.  She was never very happy about that.  She got along with Beatrice if she had to, but she really disliked Rocky (who is with her in heaven) and out right hated Crookshanks.  The two of them could not be in the same room together without a violent fight breaking out.  At first Hero was clearly the victor, but it wasn’t long before Crookshanks could hold her own and give as good as she got.  Needless to say Hero and Crookshanks did not spend much time together.  Hero enjoyed hanging out in my bed room and living the kooshy life with a warm place to sleep and plenty of food to fill her tummy.

Hero definitely let me know her anger when I adopted a dog.  She brashely walked onto the dogs bead and urinated.  She definitely did not approve.  Like I said, she was a one woman cat, and she wanted me to be a one animal girl.

I suppose I should have known something was wrong because lately Hero had been cuddling with me more, and had even sat in my lap a few times.  It just wasn’t like her, but I am glad we had that time.  She was a special girl, and I will miss her more than I can even describe.  She will always hold a special place in my heart because she was the first.  She stuck with me through thick and thin, good and bad.   Take good care of her God.
